Maurice Jacobs was born in Vilner, Poland as Maurice Yanklevich. His name was changed on Ellis Island. His sister were also born in Vilner, Poland. The family had come from the nearby Shtetl of Eishyshok, Poland. He is the only survivor among his parents and sister. Other family members of his mother's family have survived and are spread out between the United States and Israel. There are no known survivors of his father's family.
